Which Fillers Are Reversible?
Not all fillers are reversible. Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are the only ones that can be dissolved. Fortunately, many popular dermal fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, including Restylane® and Juvéderm®. They will break down rapidly when exposed to skillfully-administered injections of an enzyme called hyaluronidase (Hylenex).
No other fillers respond to hyaluronidase injections. So if you’ve received fillers made with anything other than hyaluronic acid, you won’t be able to dissolve them. However, you still have options.
First, you can consider adding more fillers to the treatment area to balance asymmetric results. Next, to address rare lumps that won’t fade, surgical dermal filler removal may be the answer. Lastly, you can always wait for your fillers to break down on their own, as long as they aren’t made with a permanent material such as silicone, which is risky and not approved by the FDA.
Common Areas To Dissolve Fillers
Fillers can be dissolved from virtually any part of the face and body. However, experienced Miami injector Dr. Shaun Patel is asked to fix lip and tear trough filler regularly.
The most common complaint among patients is that their provider over-injected their lips. Meanwhile, when tear trough filler is injected superficially, it can give the skin a blue cast.
