Uneven skin texture is one of the most common — and most annoying — complexion concerns. It can leave your face dull and rough while making smooth makeup application impossible. Thankfully, there is a simple way to achieve even, consistent skin texture.

eMatrix Sublative Rejuvenation at Miami Skin & VeineMatrix Sublative Rejuvenation, previously known as eMatrix, is one of three interchangeable handpieces that can be used with the elos Plus device by Syneron Candela. This treatment applicator is specifically designed to improve uneven, irregular complexions. It’s an exciting addition to the range of non-surgical aesthetic treatments that Dr. Shaun Patel is proud to offer his patients.

What Causes Uneven Skin Texture?

Sometimes, part of your face can look and feel rougher than the rest of your complexion. You may have a bumpy patch of skin on your nose, cheek, chin, or another area of your face. If so, you’re likely dealing with uneven skin texture.

Many different factors can affect the texture of your skin, including:

  • Dead skin buildup
  • Clogged pores
  • Sun exposure
  • Acne scars
  • Environmental damage
  • Aging
  • Dryness
  • Underlying skin conditions

How Does eMatrix Sublative Rejuvenation Improve Skin Texture?

Woman with smooth skin texture after Sublative treatmentSome people think that uneven skin texture is something that they have to live with. After all, it isn’t a problem that you hear about as often as acne or wrinkles. But you can improve the texture of your skin and make it smoother.

The Sublative handpiece uses safe bipolar radiofrequency energy to create a grid of tiny micro-injuries in the treatment area. As these injuries heal, the process stimulates collagen production and creates healthy new skin cells. That might sound intimidating, but many treatments – such as microneedling – use this basic principle to improve the skin.

Sublative is a unique treatment because the radiofrequency energy also has a beneficial warming effect. In addition to collagen production, you also get collagen remodeling. Collagen remodeling is the beneficial contraction of your existing collagen, which improves the texture of your skin.

The amazing benefits of Sublative include:

  • Minimal downtime
  • Short treatment time
  • Minimal discomfort during a session
  • Impressive results

Candidates for Sublative Treatment

Sublative treatments can be performed on a variety of skin tones, types, and textures. If you have any of the following skin concerns, you may be a great candidate for this treatment:

  • Textural issues
  • Rough skin
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne scars

Sublative tends to help with brown pigmentation issues as well, but to a lesser degree than IPL. Find out what treatment is right for you by scheduling an individualized consultation with Dr. Patel. He may recommend incorporating other elos Plus applicators as part of a comprehensive skin rejuvenation approach.

What Should I Do to Prepare for eMatrix™ Sublative Rejuvenation?

Before your eMatrix™ Sublative treatment, disclose all relevant medical conditions to your provider, including pregnancy, cold sore history, dental crowns, recent procedures, and current medications.

Irritating skincare products like Retin-A should be discontinued for one to two weeks before your appointment. If you’re unsure about when to change your routine or which products can increase sensitivity, Dr. Patel or his team can give you more detailed guidelines.

NSAIDs like Aleve, Motrin, or Advil should be discontinued for about one week before and after the treatment. You’ll also want to avoid self-tanning lotion or prolonged sun exposure for 4-6 weeks prior to eMatrix Sublative Rejuvenation.

How Long Does It Take to Heal from eMatrix™ Sublative?

It’s common to experience redness or mild swelling after eMatrix™ Sublative Rejuvenation that improves after about two to three days. Many patients schedule this treatment at the end of the week so any noticeable irritation can subside over the weekend. If you need to cover any redness, you can wear makeup 24 hours after eMatrix™.

You should avoid hot baths, saunas, or strenuous physical activity for 48 hours after the treatment. Applying an ice pack to the area makes the initial healing process more comfortable.

It’s generally best to “baby” your skin for the first two weeks after eMatrix™ Sublative Rejuvenation by using a gentle cleanser and avoiding exfoliation. For 2-4 weeks, your skin will also be more sensitive to sunlight. To promote healing, skip prolonged sun exposure and apply a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen daily.

After the treatment, you might notice a rougher skin texture or some crusting in treated areas. This is normal and resolves in one to two weeks revealing smoother skin underneath.

When Will I See the Results From My eMatrix™ Sublative Treatment?

Some patients start to see more even skin texture shortly after a eMatrix Sublative treatment, but since the collagen takes time to remodel those results will build. You can expect to see full results between 3 to 6 months after a series of treatments with gradual improvements every day.

How Long Does eMatrix™ Sublative Rejuvenation Last?

Long-term results of eMatrix™ Sublative vary based on the individual and the skin concerns that were treated, but the most noticeable results are typically visible for the first year. Healthy skin care practices like wearing sunscreen daily can extend your results.

Many patients choose to get annual maintenance treatments that continue to improve the texture of their skin and promote collagen production.
