Goals Of Lip Filler Treatment

Patients have different goals in mind when visiting Dr. Patel for lip fillers. These goals commonly vary by age, ethnicity, and gender. For example, younger patients usually want to add volume to their lips or improve lip asymmetry, while an older person may want to correct the thinning of the lips and perioral lines seen with the aging process.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Patel will review your photographs and then evaluate your lips and entire face in person. You’ll then discuss your goals for lip filler treatment. Here are some common goals of this treatment:

  • Increased lip definition
  • Increased lip volume
  • Correction of a lip asymmetry
  • Reduced lip lines

Your Lip Augmentation Options

The good news is that you have plenty of dermal filler options if you're seeking a safe, non-surgical, non-invasive option for lip augmentation. At Miami Skin & Vein, it is our goal to ensure you can meet all of your aesthetic needs at our office. We offer all of the latest and most advanced dermal fillers, so that we can provide you with a range of options to ensure you can achieve the appearance you want.

If you need lip augmentation, here are some of your dermal filler solutions:

Each of these fillers is unique and offers different advantages depending on your personal lip goals. For instance, Restylane Silk is wonderful for achieving very natural, subtle enhancement, while Restylane may be better if you are looking to add more significant volume to your lips. Restylane Refyne happens to be the most popular lip filler in our clinic followed by Restylane and Restylane Silk. Younger patients tend to prefer Restylane Refyne or Restylane while older patients with more perioral lines and loss of lip definition tend to prefer Restylane Silk.

We recently began offering Restylane Kysse after it received highly-anticipated FDA approval in the U.S. This unique formula creates natural-looking results while preserving normal expression. Compared to Juvederm, it generally requires less product to achieve the desired outcome. Additionally, the improvements to lip volume and shape last up to a year.

Dr. Patel only uses FDA-approved fillers that have been proven safe for lip injections. In certain cases, he may treat the lips using a microcannula to minimize swelling and bruising, allowing for an easier recovery.

Lip fillers are a great option for a wide range of patients looking to enhance the appearance of their lips. Ideal candidates typically:

How to Prepare for Your Lip Filler Treatment

In the days leading up to your appointment, we recommend avoiding blood-thinning medications and supplements like aspirin, ibuprofen, and fish oil, as these can increase the chances of bruising. Let Dr. Patel know if you’re taking any prescription medications.

It’s also a good idea to stay hydrated and eat a light meal before your treatment. On the day of your appointment, arrive with clean skin – don’t wear makeup, lotions, or any other products on your face. These tips will help you get the best results and keep you safe and comfortable during treatment.

Maintaining Your Lip Filler Results

While lip fillers can last up to 12 to 18 months, there are several things you can do to help prolong the results of your treatment. Staying hydrated is key – hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane bind with water to keep your lips plump and refreshed. Follow a healthy, well-balanced diet, and be aware that intense exercise can speed up the breakdown of fillers.

Protecting your lips from the sun is also important. Use a lip balm with SPF 30 or higher, and avoid unprotected sun exposure, which can accelerate the aging process. By following these simple steps, you can keep your results looking great for as long as possible before needing a touch-up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our clinic takes every precaution to ensure a positive lip filler appointment. We will apply a numbing ointment to your lips and let it sit for 30-60 minutes to ensure that it takes effect. You may feel a slight pinch or some pressure. However, the injections are generally quite tolerable.

Keep in mind that your provider’s technique can play a significant role in your experience. Dr. Patel uses a gentle hand and a microcannula to minimize discomfort during lip filler treatments.

If you’re nervous about your first appointment or have a fear of needles, ask about PRO-NOX. It’s a system that allows you to administer a safe mix of oxygen and nitrous oxide as needed. We find that it helps our patients take the edge off while easing their discomfort and anxiety.

In general, lip fillers will not affect your ability to eat or drink. However, you will want to avoid alcohol for 24 hours because its blood-thinning properties can increase bruising and swelling. It is also not a good idea to drink through a straw right away since it places pressure on the lips.

Keep in mind that your lips will be numbed for your filler treatment. Wait until your sensation returns before you eat or drink anything. Otherwise, you could accidentally injure your lips. How Soon Can You Eat After Lip Fillers?

You can start eating again as soon as the topical numbing cream wears off. As a precaution, however, there are certain foods and drinks you should avoid right after the treatment.

These foods and drinks include the following:

  • Alcohol, which can increase bruising and swelling.
  • Coffee and caffeinated tea may cause dilated blood vessels and swelling.
  • Excessively hot beverages and food may cause inflammation immediately after injection.

Several different dermal fillers are used to treat the lips. Each one has unique properties. The right filler for you depends on your specific lip characteristics and the goals you want to achieve.

The best way to find your ideal filler is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Shaun Patel. He will spend plenty of time discussing your options and building you a customized treatment plan.

Lip fillers are appropriate for most adult patients. Allergies are rare with these products. However, you shouldn’t get lip fillers if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. Additionally, lip fillers are not recommended for people with bleeding disorders or active infections near their lips.

Are There Potential Risks With Cosmetic Lip Injections?

Lip fillers are considered safe when properly administered by a trained provider. The most common side effects include mild soreness, bruising, and swelling that resolve on their own.

More serious complications can happen when the filler is injected into a blood vessel by mistake. For that reason, it’s crucial to visit a skilled and experienced injector for treatment.

The lips are a very sensitive area of the face, and while Dr. Patel uses advanced injection techniques to minimize bruising and swelling, you may still experience these side effects. Don't be alarmed if your lips appear bigger than you wanted at first - this is just the swelling, and it will subside within a week or two.

If you do experience some minor bruising, we recommend picking up some arnica gel to help speed healing. You can also apply makeup over any bruising to cover it up. Because of the possibility of bruising and swelling, we do not recommend having lip injections immediately before a big event. Give yourself time for healing to make sure you look your absolute best.

The results from lip fillers are not permanent. On average, they can last up to 12 to 18 months at a time. The duration does depend on your metabolism levels. In order to maintain your results, you will need to have routine treatments. There are also a few things you can do at home to prolong the effects of your lip filler.

Techniques to make lip fillers last longer include:

Limiting intense exercise.Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet.Avoiding unprotected sun exposure.Wearing a sunscreen with at least 30 SPF.Staying hydrated.Minimizing stress.

Healing from lip fillers is generally a swift and straightforward process, with most individuals returning to their normal activities almost immediately after the treatment. Typically, the initial swelling and bruising that can occur will start to subside within the first 24 to 48 hours. However, it's important to note that the complete healing process, where the fillers fully settle and any residual swelling or bruising disappears, can take approximately 2 to 4 weeks. During this period, you may notice changes and improvements in the appearance of your lips as you start to see the final results of their treatment.

To ensure quick and uneventful healing, following the aftercare instructions provided by Dr. Shaun Patel is crucial. These guidelines may include avoiding strenuous exercise and excessive heat exposure, as well as refraining from consuming alcohol for the first 24 hours post-treatment. Additionally, gentle ice application can help alleviate swelling and provide comfort. By adhering to these recommendations, you can help minimize any discomfort and facilitate a quicker recovery, allowing you to enjoy your beautiful, enhanced lips to the fullest.

Yes, lip fillers can help with a "gummy" smile in some cases. By adding volume to the upper lip, fillers can reduce the visibility of the gums when you smile. Depending on the severity of the issue, we might recommend a combination of treatments like Botox or even a lip flip to get the best results. During your consultation, Dr. Patel can evaluate your smile and suggest the best treatment for you.

Lip fillers typically last anywhere from 12 to 18 months, depending on factors like the type of filler used, your metabolism, and how well you care for your lips. To maintain your results, you’ll likely need touch-up treatments once or twice a year.

Lip fillers, like Juvederm and Restylane, are made from hyaluronic acid, which adds volume and enhances the shape of your lips.

Botox, on the other hand, is a neurotoxin that temporarily relaxes muscles, making it better for addressing wrinkles such as crow’s feet or frown lines.
