Your Dysport Or BOTOX® Appointment

It doesn’t take long to inject BOTOX® or Dysport. Hyperhydrosis treatments at our Miami clinic typically last less than an hour.

Preparing for your appointment is simple and may involve avoiding shaving your armpits for a few days and stopping certain medications. During the treatment, Dr. Patel skillfully injects the chosen product. You’ll likely receive multiple small injections in a grid-like pattern. Numbing agents can be used to make the process more comfortable.

What To Expect After Your Treatment

You can return to your daily routine after your injections. It’s possible to experience minor bruising or discomfort, though these side effects fade quickly. Many studies have been completed evaluating the safety and efficacy of this treatment, and most people tolerate it very well.

You won’t notice an immediate reduction in your sweat. It can take between two to seven days to stop perspiring in the treated area. Achieving total dryness typically takes two weeks. At this point, you can return to our office to touch up any spots that are still sweating. The effects of BOTOX® and Dysport treatments are temporary. You’ll need follow-up sessions in the future to keep sweating at bay. Studies have found that BOTOX® can prevent underarm sweat for up to 14 months, while the longevity in other treatment areas may vary.

How Much Does BOTOX® For Sweating Cost?

The price of botulinum toxin injections for hyperhidrosis can vary depending on the type of product and the amount required. Select cases are covered or partially covered by insurance.

Our staff can help determine your out of pocket cost. At Miami Skin and Vein, a unit of BOTOX® Cosmetic costs $15.50. Treating excessive underarm sweat can take upwards of 30 units per side. Meanwhile, a unit of Dysport costs $5.17, though the measurements are different between the two products.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everyone sweats, but those with hyperhidrosis sweat far more than what is typical. This condition causes individuals to perspire excessively regardless of temperature or level of physical activity. Hyperhidrosis commonly affects areas of the body such as the underarms, hands, feet, and face.

Primary hyperhidrosis occurs when the nerves responsible for signaling sweat glands are overactive. Feelings of stress or nervousness can worsen the problem. Secondary hyperhidrosis is less common and occurs when a medical condition leads to heavy sweating, often all over the body.

Regular antiperspirants don’t provide enough protection for people with hyperhidrosis. Consider seeking professional treatment if your excessive sweating is affecting your quality of life.

Botulinum toxin injections such as BOTOX® and Dysport are ideal for those looking to improve hyperhidrosis without surgery. These injections work by temporarily blocking the nerves responsible for activating your sweat glands.

When your nerves stop signaling your sweat glands, you will experience a significant decline in perspiration. Keep in mind that BOTOX® and Dysport only prevent sweating in the injected areas.

The most common treatment area is the underarms, followed by the palms. Studies have found that BOTOX®-type injections could also help with forehead sweat and sweating on the soles of the feet.
