Radiofrequency ablation (Venefit)
Varicose veins treatment with the Venefit procedure.
Treatment of varicose veins with radiofrequency ablation is a minimally-invasive option offered at Miami Skin & Vein. With Venefit targeted endovenous therapy, there is no need for general anesthesia or surgery. It is performed in a discreet outpatient setting at our Coral Gables clinic in Miami. The procedure takes approximately 45-60 minutes, and most patients spend only two or three hours in total, at our facility on treatment day.
Radiofrequency ablation is popular for its excellent results and reduced discomfort, bruising, and other complications, as compared to laser ablation (EVLT). Our patients typically resume normal activities within a few days following the procedure. A clinical study showed that 91.9 percent of veins treated with this ClosureFast technique remained sealed five years following treatment. This is one of the reasons that radio frequency ablation is a preferred treatment for varicose veins
During the Venefit targeted procedure, a tiny incision is made in the skin to allow the doctor to insert a small catheter into the diseased varicose vein
. Only local anesthetic is needed to maintain the patient’s comfort. A radio frequency heating element at the end of the catheter delivers even and uniform heat that contracts collagen in the wall of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and seal. Similar to what happens with laser therapy for varicose veins
, the treated vein remains closed and blood flow is naturally rerouted to healthier deep veins in the legs. The vein then shrinks and is harmlessly absorbed by the body. It is recommended that patients wear compression stockings for one to two weeks after this procedure, to help prevent blood clots and to be sure the treated vein permanently closes off.
Among the advantages of varicose veins treatments offered are our clinic are:
- No need for surgery or general anesthesia.
- Short procedure times.
- Less discomfort.
- Minimal downtime.
